Summer SolsticeSol+stice derives from the combination of Latin words meaning "sun" and "to stand still". As the days lengthen the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.
As A major celestial event, the summer solstice results in the longest day and the shortest night in the year. The Northern Hemisphere celebrates in June, people on the Souther half of the earth have their longest summer day in December. For more details see the attached.
The Friends of the Lawrence Nature Center have been joined by the HDR Young Professioal Architects to design and build a deck at the Lawrence Nature Center. This deck will serve as an extension of the Nature Center and provide greater opportunities for programs, activities and observing the beautiful surroundings.
